We are only 2 weeks into the New Year, you don’t want to miss the chance to make 2019 your best year yet. The New Year has a special energy that you won’t find at other times. Now is the time to take action.

Step 1 – Write Down Your Goal

 

This is extremely important. Putting your thoughts into physical form by writing them down turns a dream into a plan.

There is an invisible force that acts on your mind when you write something down. Personally, I put almost all of my daily tasks into my calendar. I always say, “if it isn’t on my calendar is isn’t getting done.”  I suspect you are similarly committed to keeping a calendar or a to-do list.

If writing it down is good enough for the day-to-day tasks why wouldn’t you use that strategy for the most important things that you want to accomplish?

Writing it down is a way of acknowledging that you are serious about making it happen. Once you write it down, I recommend reading it each night before you go to sleep. The subconscious mind is a powerful force. Reading your goals before you go to sleep will help program your subconscious mind to align with your intentions.

 

Step 2: Stay The Course (while allowing yourself some course-corrections)

 

Do your New Year’s goals seem more like a moonshot than a practical step forward? There is nothing wrong with that. I love the idea of envisioning powerful life-changing outcomes. Why not dream your best dream?

However, don’t let your ambitions trample over the determination and flexibility you need to achieve your outcome.   To paraphrase the French writer Voltaire, “perfect is the enemy of good.”

Allow your goals to lead you on the path to transformation. Expect bumps along the way and make adjustments as necessary. A bump on the road means slow down. It does not mean turn back and abandon all hope. Stick with it!

 

Step 3 – Be With People That Support And Inspire You

 

Humans are biologically wired to mirror each other. Do you notice how all the people you are close to seem to be people with whom you have a lot in common? You can use this to your advantage by associating with people that inspire you and motivate you to reach your goals. Support and encouragement is the daily nourishment your goals need to transform into reality.
